Irrigation FAQs
How much does an irrigation system cost?
The cost of irrigation systems vary, because every system is uniquely designed to match the requirements of each home. The most important benefit we offer, as an automatic sprinkler installer, is the expertise necessary to design highly efficient systems that reduce water usage, and save money. Our goal is to provide superior value for your investment over time.
Do I need to be present for the initial estimate and consultation?
Yes. We recommend that those invested in the decision making process are available for the estimate. There are many issues to be addressed and this will allow the process to proceed in the most expedient manner. This also provides a great opportunity for homeowners to ask us questions.
Is an irrigation system expensive to use?
An expertly designed, properly installed irrigation system yields far more efficiency than manual watering techniques. Chesapeake Irrigation & Lighting systems deliver the right amount of water, at the right time, in the right places, eliminating the water typically wasted using garden hoses and sprinklers.
Plus, our system’s weather station/rain sensor informs the controller when to run, and how much water to apply.
How does the installation affect my lawn?
Since we want to ensure minimal disruption in the lawn, we use a Vibratory Plow to install the system underground. We use this method because the lawn is expertly sliced, rather than dug into with a trencher. (Our installation crews dig smaller areas manually.)
All areas are cleaned up thoroughly after installation. The irrigation system itself aids in the lawn’s healing process as well. Typically after 7-14 days, it is hard to tell we were even there!
Do you use sub-contractors or employees?
As a family owned lighting and automatic sprinkler installer, we take pride in our experienced, dedicated employees. Everyone here is personally invested in our company’s success – from those managing our service department, to the members of our installation crews.
Many of our foremen have achieved more than 10 years of seniority; a few have even achieved 20 years of seniority.
Typically, we do not use subcontractors, with the exception of contracting with a licensed plumber to install the backflow preventer.
How long does an installation take?
Most residential projects take 2–4 days to complete, depending on the size of the property and the number of sprinkler heads being installed.
We do our best to inform you of our timeline for your planning purposes.
Do I need to be home for the installation?
We do ask that someone is present for the plumber to install the backflow-preventer to the main water line. This typically takes about 2 hours.
We usually install the controller inside the garage, and ask that the garage door is open that day, or, that the homeowner is present to allow us access. Otherwise, no one is required to be present.
What about irrigation system maintenance?
As an automatic sprinkler installer, we winterize your system and also perform a spring “start-up” free of charge the first year. (This process involves turning the water back on to the system – after being blown out with compressed air the previous fall to prevent damage from freezing.)
We also inspect the system to make sure there are no problems. Further, we offer several service plan options to fit your budget and lifestyle accordingly.
